TALKING BODIES

My body betrays me, it lies and grows
forming alliances with hairs and veins
that permanently show
every lump and bump, revealing

I’m riddled with imperfection,
it runs through every sinew.
Each molecule and cell conspires

Each time I read a magazine
I hear the voices shriek,
“why don’t you resemble these girls?
Why is your physique, so weak?”
But it’s not,
I’m not.

What a torturous life
we are condemned to lead
- trapped inside bodies
that speak
